san fran - fog harbor fish house
I have been blessed to be able to visit San Francisco 3 times in the past 3 years and not on my dime! Work trips can truly be a blessing as I love to explore new places and they bless my airline rewards! *praise dance*
During my first visit, I didn't get free time until my last night there and it was about 8pm at night. I remember thinking to myself, "what is there to do? where can I go?!" I was by myself, it was nighttime, and I didn't know how to make the most of the last few hours of my visit in a city I had never been in.
My family members urged me to go down to Fisherman's Wharf to explore and grab dinner. I had no clue what Fisherman's Wharf was but I quickly went on Yelp, found a restaurant for dinner and realized as soon as I got there, the beauty that it is!
Whenever in San Francisco, the Wharf is a must for me and that same restaurant I went to my first night back in 2016, I've gone back to each time. This time in May was no different - I made my way over to Fog Harbor Fish House and got my usual - the famous Clam Chowder and I always make sure to try a new dinner entree.
The first two times I went, I had the Grilled Salmon and the Linguine with White Clam Sauce for entrees (both VERY delicious!). The Grilled Salmon (pictured above) was served on a bed of roasted corn, arugula, red peppers, fingerling potatoes and tarragon with a citrus butter and fried onions .. whew chile.
This time around, I started off my meal with Fog Harbor's Clam Chowder - which is by far the best I have had in San Fran. It's so fresh, tasty and creamy.
Each spoonful of this chowder is literally pure bliss. I am not a huge fan of sourdough bread and normally just order a regular bowl of chowder but this time I decided to switch it up and order my chowder in the sourdough bread bowl. best. decision. ever.
When deciding on an entree I was really stuck - I still have dreams about their grilled salmon because it was just THAT good but I wanted something new that incorporated the salmon it so the Mixed Grill was calling my name. The Mixed Grill features grilled salmon, pacific cod, and shrimp, citrus beurre blanc, sauteed vegetables and garlic mashed potatoes. It was very filling but worth every last bite!
If you are ever in the San Francisco area and down by Fisherman’s Wharf, Fog Harbor Fish House is a must! I've created a tradition for myself to go there at least once every time I visit.
